Week 1: Left Hand


So, here we are with our first task!
We chose this challenge as one of the best. The point is to draw something with your non-dominant hand. For many of us it would be left hand. For some – right. Just choose the hand you are least comfortable with.

One more way to do this challenge is Left vs Right hand. Draw the same object twice with your both hands.

“Researcher and professionals that started researching about brains since 1930 believe that left brain is a rational brain, which is tightly related with the IO, rational thinking, arithmetic thinking, verbal, segmental, focus, serial (linier), finding the differences, and time management, Meanwhile right brain is the part of brain that controlled emotional thinking, which is tightly related to EQ, intuitive character, spatial thinking, visual, holistic, diffuse, parallel thinking (lateral), finding the similarities and not depending on the time.”

Why and how?


From time to time we seek more creativity in our lives as it is the form of self-expression. This is the way we can express ourselves openly and without judging! This process is especially crucial for children as it also develops their emotional health.

Here are some benefits of enhancing creativity:

  • It encourages us to use alternative ways of thinking. This can become a useful everyday skill.
  • It allows non-linear thinking and blocks old patterns of this process.
  • Creativity develops your empathy.
  • We feel connected to ourselves, we get to know ourselves better.
  • It challenges.
  • It encourages curiousity and supports resilience.
  • It can nurture  skills in cooperation and teamwork.

There are many reasons why it’s worth take some action and boost your creativity. It can be a sort of meditation increasing your level of happiness and well-being.

Here are some useful tips (backed by science!!):

Exercise it as if it is a muscle

Creativity needs practice. Practicing creative thining means thinking ACTIVELY. The problem is: we tend to be passive practically about everything around us. If we do have some free time, what do we do? Just open Facebook or Instagram and scroll down…

Unplug yourself from social media and the Internet once in a while and do something different: draw, paint, learn to play the guitar (you own but never learnt), cook some exotic meal or call an old friend.

Change your environment

Even slight changes can nudge you to think alternatively. We get used to stuff very quickly and even minimal changes can influence our perception in a very positive way. Different is good for our brain. You can hang other painting on your walls, take another cup for your coffee or bring your laptop to another room to work.

Learn something new

Well, creativity comes when you already know something. New ideas are always based on the system of old ideas in your brain. Roman architecture, Medieval law, Modern Art, the history of shoemaking… There are countless number of topics to explore. Not excited? That’s ok. Make yourself excited!

A bit of self-control is necessary to start! Did you think, we would tell you not to force yourself into doing something you don’t feel like doing? Nope. Sometimes forcing yourself is the only chance to excape boredom and stagnation! So, learn something new!

By the way, today is the day of CREATIVITY!

Deal with your EMOTIONS. Here are some exercises you can make use of:

Sketch/paint/draw your emotions

When you are sad, angry, disappointed think aboout letting it out… in the form of art! Why not? It really helps. Moreover, don’t you know that quite a lot of art came from pain? Remember Frida Kahlo.

Mandala meditation

These are symmetrical circles, no special skills are required. It is a great way to relax. Turn on some nice slow music. Here is the video to inspire:

Make an art journal

Put your feelings into words and add some illustrations. If you love it here is another idea:

Create your own comic book!

Or a book for children. This is a little bit more complicated story, but it is worth it as it can turn into something more beautiful and meaningful.

Collage your vision of a perfect day/summer/life/work

(Or whatever). It is a great idea to change your life in a positive way (don’t forget to start doing something to change it though, it is not only about the ART 🙂 ).

Our next challenge: nature.

We are already half way through our marathon! And some of us didn’t even have a chance to draw/sketch yet.
This week might be the easiest… Do not forget that we are also about the future. If you wish, you may touch the environmental issues here. What the nature of 2021 is going to be like?
We really do hope for a better future to come next year.
We would like to highlight the fact that to create art you may need to use…NATURE! So, the artists literally use nature to create nature, here we mean the mediums every artist is likely to use: charcoal, graphite pencil, water, pigments…
