We are all tired of faceless and dull shopping centers. And honestly is there something we do not already own?

Nowadays we do not only want to buy things, we are even more concerned about where we obtain out good FROM.

If there is a story behind the shop, the concept or even the name, we are much more likely to get interested. Right?

So, today we chose a few retailers with an exciting story (or extraordinary idea and concept) to share. Read, get inspired and buy to support the story or idea

EVERLANE

This is a large shop with the special focus on quality, ethical approach and transparency:

 They continually audit their factories (which they claim to be the best in the world) to evaluate if the wages and conditions are fair and decent. Moreover, on their website you can see the breakdown of their products’ prices. For instance, the true cost of Elements Jacket is 60$ (including materials, labor, transport etc.) and Everlane sells it for 120$ whereas other retailers sell it for  300$.

Porter Road

A story of two entrepreneurs getting together to sell high-quality meat nationwide and create Porter Road. They set a new standard to meat quality by sourcing the best pastures in KY, TN, and PA. They dry age and hand-cut it at their own facilities.

A jewelry brand with empowering story. Back in 2013 when it all started the founder of this shop was a young mom suffering from depression and confusion about her purpose. She started crafting jewelry. This helped her to connect with other women, listen to their stories and somehow started a journey out of the depression. As they say it is not the food that is imperfect, it is the system. In reality we thrown too many edible items into trash. Veggies that are not pretty, boxes that are slightly damaged… All these things do not compromise the quality of the food. However, big retailers (and many people) prefer to throw them away. You have a chance to support the initiative and buy those “ugly” but perfectly edible goods here.

Well Before is a website where you can find desinfectants, masks, over-the-counter medicine and personal care items. Moreover this shop donates medical supplies to those in need.

Hobby and Gifts

Uncommon Goods has donated over $2.5M to a number of charity programmes such as American Forests. With every purchase you make, Uncommon Goods donates $1 to a Better to Give partner of your choice. Check out the partners on their website filled with fun and unique products for yourself or your family members.

Cosmetics

Soko Glam is a cosmetics brand that cares about society. There is a community that decides every quarter on the charity cause. Thus, every three months the company donates a part of its income to a different charity partner. For example, in June 2021, they gave a portion of proceeds to Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) who help to protect and promote the civil rights of Asian Americans nationwide.

For Men

Mr Porter is an interesting company, not only selling fashion items and goods for men, but also raising money for men’s mental and physical health initiatives through the MR PORTER Health In Mind Fund. So far they have funded the development of a mental health and wellbeing app for Fathers Network Scotland, a Glasgow-based charity offering support to fathers dealing with breakdown of a relationship or the loss of a child.

For Women

Reformation puts sustainability as a prioroty in their business. It is a 100% carbon neutral company and they balance all of the water and waste used to make our stuff . They invest in future-focused solutions, which is why they are to become Climate Positive by 2025.

We have got some solutions to share!

We all know that most of the cleaning products we can buy at the shop are not that great for our health. But we are lazy and busy to even think about other ways to make our space shiny and beautiful.

Apparently, it is not that difficult and time-consuming as you may think! We have some tips and easy DIY recipes!

All Purpose Cleaner

You will need these ingredients (most of us have them in our kitchen anyway):

• One part vinegar
• One part water
• Lemon rind

What’s next? Easy! Combine, pour into a spray bottle, shake and wait for one week before using!

Great cleaner for easy stains!

Kitchen Cleaner

• Soda
• Water

Make a paste with just these ingredients and you’ll get a great deodorizer to clean kitchen counters, sinks and stoves!

Window Cleaner

• 2 cups water
• 1/2 cup white vinegar
• 1/4 cup alcohol 70% concentration

Combine these ingredients and pour into a spray bottle. You can add some essential oils for better smell!

Lazy to do all of these?? That is ok, because somebody has already taken care of that and did even a better work!
