Today some other countries celebrate Easter
That is why we decided to continue the list of Easter traditions around the world:
Israel.
Every year, thousands of pilgrims from all over the world come to Jerusalem to take part in the descent of the Holy Fire. The capital of Israel is not an accidental, but a symbolic place, because it was here that Jesus was crucified thousands of years ago in order to rise from the dead after. Easter in Israel is accompanied by church services in all cities of the country. Festive food – strictly in accordance with ancient traditions and customs, all the same Easter cake and painted eggs.
Spain.
Each Spanish region has its own traditions, but nothing compares to the world-famous processions in the southern region of Andalusia. In particular, one of the longest and most crowded processions in Spain takes place in Seville. Every year, thousands of tourists from all over the world come here to see the elaborate costumes, masks and decorated wagons, as well as the participants – members of local religious brotherhoods in their “capirota”, high cone-shaped caps with holes for the eyes, completely covering the face.
Philippines.
On Good Friday, the inhabitants of the Philippines, who are considered zealous Catholics, arrange a rather cruel staging of the crucifixion of Christ in different cities. In this tradition, male volunteers are indeed nailed directly to the crosses. It lasts only a couple of minutes, and the meaning of such an action lies in reminding citizens of the suffering of Jesus Christ.
Italy.
Thousands of people gather in the Vatican to listen to the speech of the Pope on Good Friday, but in Florence on Easter Sunday there is a celebration of a completely different kind. “Explosion of the wagon” – scoppio del carro – is a tradition that is about three centuries old. Wreathed white oxen drag a huge wagon through the streets of the city, followed by soldiers, musicians and procession participants in 15th-century costumes. When the procession reaches the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the wagon is set on fire and a grand fireworks display begins, which symbolizes a good harvest, good luck in life and success in business.
Brazil.
In Brazil, an effigy of Judas is traditionally burned at Easter. This is not just a custom, but an important element of the holiday – often whole competitions are held for the best scarecrow, which will then be burned in the central square of the city. The symbol of Easter in Brazil is painted eggs, symbolizing life, chocolate as a symbol of joy and a rabbit, which is a symbol of fertility. Therefore, everywhere on the eve of the Easter holiday you can buy eggs with a variety of colors, chocolate products of various types and sizes, as well as rabbit figurines. The table is necessarily decorated with Easter cake baked in the form of a cross.
